Vibrant Corporation has been awarded a research contract by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio. The $850,000 project will study changes in the properties of high-performance materials for jet engine components caused by exceeding engine operating temperature limits. The project will then develop a predictive material modeling capability that will enable more accurate inspection of jet engine parts using Vibrant’s Process Compensated Resonance Testing (PCRT) technology.

Vibrant has partnered with the Materials Engineering Department at the University of California, Santa-Barbara and Computational Tools, Inc., a firm specializing in computational methods for non-destructive evaluation. Eric Biedermann, Vibrant’s Principal Investigator for the program, said, “This is an exciting problem, and our team offers a unique set of capabilities for solving it. A successful outcome will mean improved safety of flight and readiness for Department of Defense and commercial aircraft.
